ABSTRACT

Accurate measurement of abdominal aortic aneurysm is essential for selecting suitable stent-grafts to avoid complications of endovascular aneurysm repair. However, the conventional image-based measurements are inaccurate and time-consuming. We introduce the automated workflow including semantic segmentation with active learning (AL) and measurement using an application programming interface of computer-aided design. 300 patients underwent CT scans, and semantic segmentation for aorta, thrombus, calcification, and vessels was performed in 60-300 cases with AL across five stages using UNETR, SwinUNETR, and nnU-Net consisted of 2D, 3D U-Net, 2D-3D U-Net ensemble, and cascaded 3D U-Net. 7 clinical landmarks were automatically measured for 96 patients. In AL stage 5, 3D U-Net achieved the highest dice similarity coefficient (DSC) with statistically significant differences (p < 0.01) except from the 2D-3D U-Net ensemble and cascade 3D U-Net. SwinUNETR excelled in 95% Hausdorff distance (HD95) with significant differences (p < 0.01) except from UNETR and 3D U-Net. DSC of aorta and calcification were saturated at stage 1 and 4, whereas thrombus and vessels were continuously improved at stage 5. The segmentation time between the manual and AL-corrected segmentation using the best model (3D U-Net) was reduced to 9.51 ± 1.02, 2.09 ± 1.06, 1.07 ± 1.10, and 1.07 ± 0.97 min for the aorta, thrombus, calcification, and vessels, respectively (p < 0.001). All measurement and tortuosity ratio measured - 1.71 ± 6.53 mm and - 0.15 ± 0.25. We developed an automated workflow with semantic segmentation and measurement, demonstrating its efficiency compared to conventional methods.

ABSTRACT

Ni-rich layered oxides have received significant attention as promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries due to their high reversible capacity. However, intergranular and intragranular cracks form at high state-of-charge (SOC) levels exceeding 4.2 V (vs. Li/Li+), representing a prominent failure mechanism of Ni-rich layered oxides. The nanoscale crack formation at high SOC levels is attributed to a significant volume change resulting from a phase transition between the H2 and H3 phases. Herein, in contrast to the electrochemical crack formation at high SOC levels, another mechanism of chemical crack and pit formation on a nanoscale is directly evidenced in fully lithiated Ni-rich layered oxides (low SOC levels). This mechanism is associated with intergranular stress corrosion cracking, driven by chemical corrosion at elevated temperatures. The nanoscopic chemical corrosion behavior of Ni-rich layered oxides during aging at elevated temperatures is investigated using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, revealing that microcracks can develop through two distinct mechanisms: electrochemical cycling and chemical corrosion. Notably, chemical corrosion cracks can occur even in a fully discharged state (low SOC levels), whereas electrochemical cracks are observed only at high SOC levels. This finding provides a comprehensive understanding of the complex failure mechanisms of Ni-rich layered oxides and provides an opportunity to improve their electrochemical performance.

ABSTRACT

In this study, a one-step immunoassay for porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) based on Fv-antibodies and switching peptides was developed, and the assay results of PEDV were obtained by just mixing samples without any further reaction or washing steps. The Fv-antibodies with binding affinity to the spike protein of PEDV were screened from the Fv-antibody library using the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein as a screening probe. Screened Fv-antibodies with binding affinities to the RBD antigen were expressed, and the binding constants (KD) were calculated to be 83-142 nM. The one-step immunoassay for the detection of PEDV was configured as a displacement immunoassay using a fluorescence-labeled switching peptide. The one-step immunoassay based on switching peptides was performed using PEDV, and the limit of detection (LOD) values for PEDV detection were estimated to be Ct = 39.7-36.4. Compared with the LOD value for a conventional lateral flow immunoassay (Ct = 33.0), the one-step immunoassay showed a remarkably improved LOD for the detection of PEDV. Finally, the interaction between the screened Fv-antibodies and the PEDV RBD was investigated using docking simulations and compared with the amino acid sequences of the receptors on host cells, such as aminopeptidase N (APN) and angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE-2).

ABSTRACT

Monocarboxylate transporter-1 (MCT-1) inhibitors were screened from the Fv-antibody library, which contained complementary determining region 3 with randomized amino acid sequences (11 residues) through site-directed mutagenesis. Fv-antibodies against MCT-1 were screened from the autodisplayed Fv-antibody library. Two clones were screened, and the binding affinity (KD) against MCT-1 was estimated using flow cytometry. The screened Fv-antibodies were expressed as soluble fusion proteins (Fv-1 and Fv-2) and the KD for MCT-1 was estimated using the SPR biosensor. The inhibitory activity of the expressed Fv-antibodies was observed in HEK293T and Jurkat cell lines by measuring intracellular pH and lactate accumulation. The level of cell viability in HEK293T and Jurkat cell lines was decreased by the inhibitory activity of the expressed Fv-antibodies. The binding properties of the Fv-antibodies to MCT-1 were analyzed using molecular docking simulations. Overall, the results showed that the screened Fv-antibodies against MCT-1 from the Fv-antibody library had high binding affinity and inhibitory activity against MCT-1, which could be used as potential therapeutic drug candidates for the MCT-1 inhibitor.

ABSTRACT

Accurate lesion diagnosis through computed tomography (CT) and advances in laparoscopic or robotic surgeries have increased partial nephrectomy survival rates. However, accurately marking the kidney resection area through the laparoscope is a prevalent challenge. Therefore, we fabricated and evaluated a 4D-printed kidney surgical guide (4DP-KSG) for laparoscopic partial nephrectomies based on CT images. The kidney phantom and 4DP-KSG were designed based on CT images from a renal cell carcinoma patient. 4DP-KSG were fabricated using shape-memory polymers. 4DP-KSG was compressed to a 10 mm thickness and restored to simulate laparoscopic port passage. The Bland-Altman evaluation assessed 4DP-KSG shape and marking accuracies before compression and after restoration with three operators. The kidney phantom's shape accuracy was 0.436 ± 0.333 mm, and the 4DP-KSG's shape accuracy was 0.818 ± 0.564 mm before compression and 0.389 ± 0.243 mm after restoration, with no significant differences. The 4DP-KSG marking accuracy was 0.952 ± 0.682 mm before compression and 0.793 ± 0.677 mm after restoration, with no statistical differences between operators (p = 0.899 and 0.992). In conclusion, our 4DP-KSG can be used for laparoscopic partial nephrectomies, providing precise and quantitative kidney tumor marking between operators before compression and after restoration.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture is known for a harmless treatment when administered by well-trained clinicians. However, multiple case reports of traumatic adverse events (AEs) related to acupuncture treatments continue to be published in literature. In this review, we evaluated the reporting quality and conducted causality assessments of case studies that have reported acupuncture-related traumatic AEs in Korea. METHODS: Eight databases were searched from their inception to January 2024. Only Korean case studies that reported traumatic AEs following acupuncture procedures were included without any language restrictions. Reporting quality was evaluated based on patient characteristics, AEs, and acupuncture practice. Causality was assessed using the modified WHO-UMC causality criteria. RESULTS: Twenty-eight studies were included from a total of 1,154 identified studies. The quality of reporting in the included studies was low overall. While the descriptions of patient characteristics and AEs were relatively well detailed, most information on acupuncture practice was not reported at all. During the causality assessment, only three (10.7%) studies were judged to be "certain". Twelve (42.9%) studies were "unassessable" because they inadequately described the information necessary for decision-making. It was practically difficult to establish the causality between acupuncture and AEs, as well as the appropriateness of acupuncture practice. CONCLUSIONS: Insufficient and inappropriate reporting was observed in most case studies reporting acupuncture-related traumatic AEs in Korea. To overcome these limitations, we have suggested tentative guidelines in the form of a set of items that should be reported by future authors who plan to publish case studies on acupuncture-related traumatic AEs in a clinical setting.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate adsorption effects of electron scavengers (H2O2 and S2O82-) on oxidation performance for mineralization of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in radiation treatment using catalysts (Al2O3, TiO2). Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2, 1 mM) as an electron scavenger showed weak adsorption onto catalysts (0.012 mmol g-1-Al2O3 and 0.004 mmol g-1-TiO2, respectively), leading to an increase in TOC removal efficiency of SMX within the absorbed dose of 30 kGy by 12.3% with Al2O3 and by 8.0% with TiO2. The weak adsorption of H2O2 onto the catalyst allowed it to act as an electron scavenger, promoting indirect decomposition reactions. However, high adsorption of S2O82- (1 mM) onto Al2O3 (0.266 mmol g-1-Al2O3) showed a decrease in TOC removal efficiency of SMX from 76.2% to 30.2% within the absorbed dose of 30 kGy. The high adsorption of S2O82- onto the catalyst inhibited direct decomposition reaction by reducing adsorption of SMX on catalysts. TOC removal efficiency for Al2O3 without electron scavengers in an acidic condition was higher than that in a neutral or alkaline condition. However, TOC removal efficiency for Al2O3 with S2O82- was higher in a neutral condition than in other pH conditions. This indicates that the pH of a solution plays a critical role in the catalytic oxidation performance by determining surface charges of catalysts and yield of reactive radicals produced from water radiolysis. In the radiocatalytic system, H2O2 enhances the oxidation performance of catalysts (Al2O3 and TiO2) over a wide pH range (3-11). Meanwhile, S2O82- is not suitable with Al2O3 in acidic conditions because of its strong adsorption onto Al2O3 in this study.

Objective: In sham acupuncture-controlled acupuncture clinical trials, although sham acupuncture techniques are different from those of verum acupuncture, the same acupuncture points are often used for verum and sham acupuncture, raising the question of whether sham acupuncture is an appropriate placebo. We aimed to examine the effects of sham and verum acupuncture according to the points needled (same or different between verum and sham acupuncture) in knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Ten databases were searched to find randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of verum acupuncture with sham acupuncture or waiting lists on knee osteoarthritis. Sham acupuncture was classified as using the same acupuncture points as those in verum acupuncture (SATV) or using sham points (SATS). A frequentist network meta-analysis (NMA) was conducted, and the certainty of evidence was evaluated. Results: A total of 10 RCTs involving 1628 participants were included. Verum acupuncture was significantly superior to SATS but not different from SATV in terms of pain reduction. Additionally, SATV was significantly superior to the waiting list. For physical function, no difference were found between verum acupuncture, SATV, and SATS. The certainty of evidence was low to moderate. Conclusion: For knee osteoarthritis, the pain reduction effect of acupuncture may differ according to the needling points of sham acupuncture, and the control group should be established according to the specific aim of the study design and treatment mechanism.

BACKGROUND: ArtiSential, a class of innovative laparoscopic instrument, has been developed to overcome the limitations of conventional laparoscopic surgery by enabling free, 360°-unrestricted movement of the wrist joint, as in robotic surgery. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to describe the initial experiences with these devices in myomectomy and to report the surgical outcomes. METHODS: A total of 77 women undergoing laparoscopic or robotic myomectomy between January 2021 and June 2022 were included in this multicenter prospective study. The ArtiSential instruments used by the surgeons were those chosen according to their respective preferences. The baseline characteristics, surgical outcomes, trocar placement options, and operator survey results were scrutinized. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 39.9 ± 6.3, and the mean body mass index (BMI, calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters) was 22.4 ± 3.4 kg/m2 ; 46.8% of the patients underwent robotic surgery, while 53.2% underwent laparoscopic surgery. The number of removed myomas was 3.3 ± 3.0, the size of the largest myoma was 7.1 ± 2.3 cm, and the operative time was 130.0 ± 54.0 min. No transfusions or laparotomy conversions were required. Other than one case of ileus, there were no postoperative complications. In most cases, the instruments were inserted through the umbilicus trocar, and the fenestrated forceps, needle holder, and bipolar fenestrated forceps, in that order, were frequently employed. According to a surgeon survey, 29.9% moderately or strongly agreed that the ArtiSential devices utilized were more convenient than conventional laparoscopic instruments, while only 9.7% moderately or strongly agreed that they were more convenient than robotic instruments. CONCLUSIONS: Myomectomy as performed with an ArtiSential instrument seems to be feasible and safe. Further studies are necessary in order to comparatively assess the outcomes and potential benefits of ArtiSential, robotic, and conventional laparoscopic myomectomy.

Robust and accurate three-dimensional localization is essential for personal navigation, emergency rescue, and worker monitoring in indoor environments. For localization technology to be employed in various applications, it is necessary to reduce infrastructure dependence and limit the maximum error bound. This study aims to accurately estimate the location of various people using smartphones in a building with a cloud platform-based localization system. The proposed technology is modularized in a hierarchical structure to sequentially estimate the floor and location. This system comprises four localization modules: course level detection, fine level detection (FLD), fine location tracking (FLT), and level change detection (LCD). Each module operates organically according to the current user status. The position estimation range is defined as a total of three phases, and an appropriate location estimation module suitable for the corresponding phase operates to estimate the user's location gradually and precisely. When the user's floor is determined by an FLD, the two-dimensional position of the user is estimated by an FLT module that tracks the user's position by comparing the received signal strength indicator vector sequence and radio map. Also, LCD recognizes the user's floor change and converts the user's phase. To verify the proposed technology, various experiments were conducted in a six-story building, and an average accuracy of less than 2 m was obtained.

ABSTRACT

Serotonin-like mimotopes were screened from the Fv-antibody library to be used as inhibitors against monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A). The Fv-antibody [corresponding to the VH region of immunoglobulin G (IgG)] consists of three complementarity-determining regions and four frame regions. The Fv-antibody library was prepared by site-directed mutagenesis of CDR3, which consists of 11 amino acid residues. Three target clones were screened from the Fv-antibody library, and the binding affinity of the screened clones to the monoclonal anti-serotonin antibody was analyzed using fluorescence-activated cell sorting. The screened Fv-antibodies were expressed as soluble proteins fused with green fluorescence protein. Additionally, the screened CDR3 regions (11 residues) of the selected Fv-antibodies were synthesized as peptides with linking amino acid residues. The binding constants (KD) of the three serotonin-like mimotopes (Fv-antibodies and peptides) were estimated using a surface plasmon resonance biosensor. The inhibitory activity (IC50) of the serotonin-like mimotopes (Fv-antibodies and peptides) was estimated separately for MAO-A and MAO-B enzymes and compared with that of conventional inhibitors. Finally, the screened serotonin-like mimotopes were used to treat a cell line (SH-SY5Y, ATCC code: CRL-2266) expressing serotonin receptors. This was done to confirm the following two aspects: (1) the binding of mimotopes to the serotonin receptors on the cell surface and (2) the inhibitory activity of mimotopes against MAO-A enzymes in the cell lysates.

Numerous acupuncture studies have been conducted on cancer-related pain; however, its efficacy compared to sham acupuncture remains controversial. We confirmed whether the outcome of acupuncture differs according to the needling points of sham acupuncture for cancer-related pain. We searched 10 databases on 23 May 2023 to screen acupuncture trials using sham acupuncture or waiting list as controls for cancer-related pain. Sham acupuncture was classified into two types, depending on whether the needling was applied at the same locations as verum acupuncture (SATV) or not (SATS). A network meta-analysis (NMA) was performed on the basis of a frequentist approach to assess pain severity. Eight studies (n = 574 participants) were included in the review, seven of which (n = 527 participants) were included in the NMA. The pain severity was not significantly different between SATV and verum acupuncture, but verum acupuncture significantly improved pain severity compared to SATS. The risk of bias affecting the comparisons between the verum and sham acupuncture was generally low. Previous acupuncture trials for cancer-related pain showed differing outcomes of sham and verum acupuncture, depending on the needling points of sham acupuncture. The application of SATV cannot be considered a true placebo, which leads to an underestimation of the efficacy of verum acupuncture.

Background: As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has spread globally, its sequelae, called Long COVID, have persisted, troubling patients worldwide. Although fatigue is known to be the most frequent among Long COVID symptoms, its mechanism and treatment have not been clearly demonstrated. In 2022, we conducted a preliminary prospective case series and found that acupuncture and moxibustion were feasible interventions for fatigue. This study is a pilot patient-assessor-blinded randomized sham-controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture treatment for patients with fatigue that has persisted for at least 4 weeks after recovery from COVID-19. Methods: Thirty patients will be recruited and randomly assigned to either the acupuncture or sham acupuncture treatment groups. Treatment will be conducted thrice a week for both groups during 4 weeks. The primary outcome will be the efficacy and safety of acupuncture, including numeric rating scale (NRS), brief fatigue inventory (BFI), fatigue severity scale (FSS), and adverse event evaluation. Secondary outcomes will be evaluation of improvement in the comorbid symptoms of fatigue and feasibility variables. Outcome variables will be assessed before treatment, 4 weeks after treatment, and 8 weeks after treatment completion. Discussion: The results of this study will be used to clarify the efficacy and safety of acupuncture treatment for persistent fatigue in patients with Long COVID. Since its first report in 2019, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has posed a grave threat to public health. Virus-specific countermeasures, such as vaccines and therapeutics, have been developed and have contributed to the control of the viral pandemic, which has become endemic. Nonetheless, new variants continue to emerge and could cause a new pandemic. Consequently, it is important to comprehensively understand viral evolution and the roles of mutations in viral infectivity and transmission. SARS-CoV-2 beta variant encode mutations (D614G, N501Y, E484K, and K417N) in the spike which are frequently found in other variants as well. While their individual role in viral infectivity has been elucidated against various therapeutic antibodies, it still remains unclear whether those mutations may act additively or synergistically when combined. Here, we report that N501Y mutation shows differential effect on two therapeutic antibodies tested. Interestingly, the relative importance of E484K and K417N mutations in antibody evasion varies depending on the antibody type. Collectively, these findings suggest that continuous efforts to develop effective antibody therapeutics and combinatorial treatment with multiple antibodies are more rational and effective forms of treatment.

BACKGROUND: Hindfoot malalignment can cause various foot and ankle problems. For better surgical performance and correction of hindfoot malalignments, reliable intraoperative determination of hindfoot alignment is essential. However, there is no standard method for the intraoperative assessment of hindfoot alignment. We devised an intraoperative modified Méary posteroanterior (IOPPA) view to assess intraoperative hindfoot alignment. This study aimed to compare this intraoperative method with other radiographic hindfoot alignment measurements. METHODS: Thirty-seven patients (47 feet) with various foot and ankle conditions scheduled to undergo surgery were prospectively recruited. Before surgery, the Saltzman, long axial, and modified Méary views were taken in a controlled and standardized fashion. IOPPA views were obtained under simulated weight bearing conditions using C-arm fluoroscopy in the operating room before surgery. The relationship between the IOPPA view and the three radiographic hindfoot alignments was evaluated using Pearson's correlation. RESULTS: The mean hindfoot alignment angle was varus 3.50° (CI, varus 1.91 to 5.08) on the Saltzman view, varus 2.00° (CI, varus 0.60 to 3.39) on the long axial view, varus 0.13° (CI, valgus 1.41 to varus 1.67) on the modified Méary view, and varus 1.32° (CI, valgus 0.02 to varus 2.65) on IOPPA view. The IOPPA view and the three other hindfoot alignment views were found to be significantly correlated (r = 0.60 for the Saltzman view, r = 0.50 for the long axial view, r = 0.71 for the modified Méary view, P < .05). The intraobserver ICC (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient) value was 0.974 and interobserver ICC (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient) value was 0.988 for the IOPPA view (P < .001). CONCLUSION: There was a statistically significant correlation between the IOPPA view and the other three hindfoot alignment views. We also found that interobserver and intraobserver ICC values were excellent. This study proposes that the IOPPA view can be used as a reliable intraoperative assessment tool for hindfoot alignment. Argyrodite-type Li6 PS5 Cl (LPSCl) has attracted much attention as a solid electrolyte for all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) because of its high ionic conductivity and good mechanical flexibility. LPSCl, however, has challenges of translating research into practical applications, such as irreversible electrochemical degradation at the interface between LPSCl and cathode materials. Even for Li-ion batteries (LIBs), liquid electrolytes have the same issue as electrolyte decomposition due to interfacial instability. Nonetheless, current LIBs are successfully commercialized because functional electrolyte additives give rise to the formation of stable cathode-electrolyte interphase (CEI) and solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers, leading to supplementing the interfacial stability between electrolyte and electrode. Herein, inspired by the role of electrolyte additives for LIBs, trimethylsilyl compounds are introduced as solid electrolyte additives for improving the interfacial stability between sulfide-based solid electrolytes and cathode materials. 2-(Trimethylsilyl)ethanethiol (TMS-SH), a solid electrolyte additive, is oxidatively decomposed during charge, forming a stable CEI layer. As a result, the CEI layer derived from TMS-SH suppresses the interfacial degradation between LPSCl and LiCoO2 , thereby leading to the excellent electrochemical performance of Li | LPSCl | LiCoO2 , such as superior cycle life over 2000 cycles (85.0% of capacity retention after 2000 cycles).

Laparoscopic surgery has evolved with technological advances in many aspects and increasing demand for its benefits in cosmetics, fast recovery, reduced complication rates and pain. However, it still possesses drawbacks such as limited surgical movement due to the nature of rigid laparoscopic instruments. In order to overcome such limitations, several laparoscopic jointed instruments have been developed. In this prospective multicenter, single-arm cohort study, we investigated the short-term safety and feasibility of the new articulating laparoscopic instruments in benign gynecologic surgery. A total of 113 patients who were diagnosed with benign gynecologic adnexal diseases underwent laparoscopic surgery with articulating laparoscopic instruments. Surgical outcomes, including intra/postoperative complication rates, operation time and estimated blood loss, as well as surgeon's subjective evaluation of the usage of the instruments, were evaluated. The results demonstrated that the articulating laparoscopic instruments had comparable usability and produced similar surgical outcomes to conventional laparoscopic surgery. The objective parameters, such as the operative time and complication rates, as well as the subjective parameters, such as the surgeon's own evaluation of the surgical instruments' usability, demonstrated potential benefits of the instruments in benign gynecological diseases. Overall, the study demonstrated that the use of this novel articulating device is feasible in gynecologic laparoscopic surgery.

Introduction: Case reports on acupuncture-related adverse events (AEs) have been consistently published in the literature. This review aims to assess the current publication status of case reports on acupuncture-related AEs and evaluate their reporting quality in order to identify areas for improvement. Methods: This study is a systematic review (SR) of case reports. Studies describing cases for acupuncture-related AEs between 2010 and 2023 (until July) were searched in PubMed, Embase, and local databases (China and Korea), as well as by hand-searching references included in published relevant SRs. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to examine the publication trends of the included literature. The appropriateness of the acupuncture described in the cases, the causality assessment between AEs and acupuncture treatment, and the presence of necessary items from the CAse REport guidelines (CARE) checklist were narratively analyzed. Results: A total of 169 case reports were included in this review. Over the past decade, an average of 12 case reports on acupuncture-related AEs were published annually. However, only 38.2% of the articles provided sufficient information to determine the appropriateness of the acupuncture treatment used in the reported cases, and considerable numbers of the included case reports did not suggest enough information for the assessment of a causal relationship. The majority of cases did not report the timeline (n = 164), patient perspectives (n = 157), and informed consent (n = 121) items from the CARE checklist. Discussion: Acupuncture-related AEs persist in being frequently reported in the literature. Nonetheless, the information concerning acupuncture and causality assessment within these publications is still found to be insufficient. The development of reporting guidelines for future case reports on acupuncture-related AEs is anticipated to promote an academic environment conducive to more comprehensive reporting.

Acupotomy is a widely used medical intervention in traditional East Asian medicine, and efforts are being made to improve its effectiveness and safety. As a first step toward establishing more standardized procedural guidelines, a survey was conducted to explore the current clinical practice status and perceived adverse events (AEs) by Korean Medicine (KM) practitioners. The survey was developed via expert consensus and included information on clinical usage, perception, and the AEs experienced. The largest acupotomy society in Korea, which consists of 185 KM doctors, participated in an online survey conducted in September 2021. Of the 185 KM doctors, 107 (57.8%) responded. Musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases accounted for 80.8% of suggested indications by KM doctors. Regarding the detailed procedure, there were considerable discrepancies between KM doctors. The most frequent acupotomy-related AEs observed by KM practitioners were bruises (77.3%), fatigue (57.7%), pain (51.8%), and hematoma (51.8%). Only 1.8% of the respondents answered that they had experienced severe AEs. Survey respondents answered that the use of imaging devices during acupotomy and the development of clinical practice guidelines are the most necessary policy requirements for promoting the use and ensuring the safety of acupotomy. To the best of our knowledge, this study marks the initial exploration into the KM physicians' clinical usage status, AEs experienced, and their requests for standardized guidelines and expanded health insurance coverage concerning acupotomy. Further research should include qualitative studies to assess patient experience and prospective observational studies to examine the effects of operator skills and treatment modalities on AEs and adherence.
